Tim Bannister

You haven't been feeling like yourself for a while. At first you thought that it would pass but it hasn't got any better. You've looked online for ideas and even tried talking to a chatbot but in the end none of that has helped. You want to talk to someone but are afraid to. You worry that the people closest to you won't look at you the same way if you admit to them how you are really feeling. They think you're strong but on the inside you are screaming out for someone to notice.

About me and my practice

The foundation for any successful counselling therapy is trust. It can be so difficult to trust people, especially a stranger. But being brave enough to take this step can set you on the path towards real and lasting change. There are some conditions that can help trust to develop between you and your chosen counsellor; the first and most important is for this person to accept you just as you are without judgement. They must be able to accept everything you bring to the sessions, everything you say and share no matter how scared or ashamed you are of thinking or feeling it. Once you are in that place of non-judgement, your counsellor will see you, as you are in that moment and where you are in your life and from that they can truly empathise with you. They can see your concerns, the challenges you face, your hopes and goals, all from your perspective. The validation this can bring is deeply moving, and from the moment that you choose to trust, you have begun the work towards that real and lasting change.

Experience

I have worked with clients who have wanted to work through bereavement and grief, family difficulties, domestic abuse (historical & current) and historical abuse. I have also worked with clients who have been living with anxiety, depression, shame and with clients who want to understand their past better as a way to move beyond it. I have also worked with clients who are seeking diagnosis for neurodivergence.

Qualifications

Level 4 Diploma in therapeutic counselling (CPCAB)

Additional Information

I was diagnosed with ADHD in my early 40's and so have lived experience both as an adult struggling with things other people seemed to find easy and post-diagnosis where I have learned a great deal about myself, my difficulties and the hard work it can take to move towards self-acceptance.
